Clinton Told to Smile by White Male Commentators

After a big Super Tuesday sweep for presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, over her democratic opponent Bernie Sanders in 5 states she received a large amount of sexist feedback from political commentators through twitter including MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, Brit Hume, Howard Kurtz among others. The stream of tweets can be seen here. In my opinion, the problem with this is that they were telling her to "smile" in her victory speeches and rallies instead of yelling at her supporters. Question. When Bernie Sanders or Donald Trump yell during their rallies or speeches, and not "smile" why are they considered strong candidates and leaders of their communities? By them tweeting these remarks it further reveals the sexist undertones that plague our American Society. Similarly, it also reveals the obvious heteropatriarchy and white male privilege that runs our society. But like we talked about in class, these are people that we see on prime time cable television. They want to put her in the traditional role of a woman. I think she should be taken as serious as a candidate as her other male competitors. I mean other countries have female leaders, and they are doing just fine. So whats the problem; but I digress. Like I said before. This election is really exposing the racist, sexist, ignorant part of our country. Which is sad, but ABOUT TIME!

  1. I am done with sexism (as well as racism, etc) playing a role in politics. It is so ignorant, immature, and outdated. Our country is quite embarrassing right now, although it has to happen in order for there to be a big change.
