The Pass Movie: Russell Tovey + Arinze Kene
This is a story of a soccer player struggling to figure out his sexual identity with the challenges of the public-private dualism of being famous. The movie follows a friendship between two men that develops sexual tension. While this film is produced in the UK and most likely limited to that geographical audience, there are implications of its debut not only in the LGBT community. Coming out in English football is a recent phenomenon in the country and the media is not quite sure how to portray this once symbolically annihilated group although homosexuality has been legalized since 1967. This movie is promoted by soccer players who have come out so that others like them in the league can muster the courage to speak up and be free with who they are. They want to help the public understand them and withdraw from hostility.
