Response to North Carolina House Bill 2
We've all heard about the law. Critics are calling it the worst Anti-LGBT law in American history. In short, this law prohibits transgender or genderqueer persons living in North Carolina from using restrooms based on the gender they identify with, and making it law that they must use the bathroom that aligns with the sex they were assigned at birth. It also prevents local ordinances from making laws to prevent discrimination against LGBT people.
In light of all the negative things that are being said, I would like to bring in some light.
While this law is horrible, it has brought out the best in the media and in the community. Critics continue to slam the law, media continues to express outrage against the law, and members of the LGBT community and straight allies alike have made their outrage heard on social media. Universities such as Wake Forest and Elon have released official statements condemning the law. This is a situation where the media in all forms has actually rallied for LGBT rights, and it's been inspiring for me to see. It is actually possible for the general public to take the side of LGBT people on an issue, and that has been refreshing to see.

I seen a video on this before, a man in it said that he do not want a woman who used to be a man in the same restroom with his daughter. he said it makes him uncomfortable. there are many different views on this situation
ReplyDeleteI think it is interesting that Georgia totally rejected a similar bill this week...
