Hate Crime based on Sexual Orientation

Two gay men having sex had boiling water poured on them by the boyfriend of one’s mother, Blackwell. He is charged with two counts of aggravated battery, but not hate crime because Georgia is one of the states that doesn’t include sexual orientation in its hate crime laws. This further polarizes society and poses coming out as a risk in which even the government can’t protect its citizens. The long standing heteropatriarchal drive of government and the media is literally hurting the LGBT community where news stories like this are hidden from accessible public view.
