Adam Lambert Interview: Gay Representation in Media

Karly Morgan

I thought it was extremely appropriate that I found this interview of Adam Lambert, an openly gay American musician, on the topic of gay portrayal in the media.

He touched on several things we talked about in class, such as how he's often encouraged to perform his sexuality, direct his performances in a "more gay" manner, etc., to play up the gay stereotype. He also talked about how the media often didn't even cover his musical success, but wanted to talk about his sexuality as if it was a scandal or topic worthy of media hype, when it is really just a facet of his identity.

Mostly, I loved his answer to the last question, which I have found to be true in my personal experience: the average person simply doesn't care. It's the media who tries to use it as a source of scandal and hype.
