The Divergent Series: Allegiant

This weekend, the newest movie of the Divergent series, Allegiant, is coming out in theaters. I'm a big fan of movie series in general, so I tend to follow as much as possible. Although there are elements of The Divergent Series that are enjoyable, most of the time I am left bothered.

This is mostly because Shailene Woodley's character Tris fits the description of Fighting Fuck Toy spot on. She is a strong, independent woman who had to grow up fast due to the death of both of her parents and the betrayal of her brother. However, she is shown indiscreetly through the male gaze. She is often performing for the male viewer and is always very tight clothing with the purpose of showing off her body shape. It's a shame to me that they made the movies this way because in the books it is up to the readers imagination of what she looks like, and personally I found no words in the book that made me picture her as over-sexualized.

  1. I think you're absolutely right. It's a shame because so many people who have read the books comment on how cool it is to have a strong female lead in a powerful book series like that, but she's totally transformed into an FFT on screen.
