US Women's Soccer Team Files Lawsuit

Yesterday, five women who are members of the United States Soccer Team filed a lawsuit. The five women included World Cup breakout star Carli Lloyd and superstar Alex Morgan. Specifically, the lawsuit targets wage discrimination. One of the strong claims is that  "the women's team [has] generat[ed] nearly $20 million more revenue last year than the U.S. men's team, [but] the women are paid about a quarter of what the men earn." This claim alone illuminates the problem that women's sports face. Hope Solo, the US team's goalie, says ""In this day and age, it's about equality. It's about equal rights. It's about equal pay. We're pushing for that. We believe now the time is right because we believe it's our responsibility for women's sports and specifically for women's soccer to do whatever it takes to push for equal pay and equal rights. And to be treated with respect." I have a huge amount of respect for the women's team, and for their constant fight for equal rights! They are very deserving of equal pay, as they work just as hard as the men. Their gender should not discriminate them, but unfortunately it does.
