CP Time

Cautious politician time or Colored people's time?

New York Bill de Blasio thought he was using a harmless saying to be funny, but caused the audience to have a visceral reaction. Clinton tried to help him out by referring his use of CP time-- known to stand for colored people's time, or being late and shifting it to cautious politician time. This is a case of ultimate attribution error where two caucasian politicians with a lot of power buddy up to soften the blow of one of their actions. Language is a pressing issue because the more this type of communication circulates, the more people will think its' okay to disrespect another culture. This perpetuates hegemonic functions to make what's not okay to be fine because that's "not what I meant" and what I say matters in this white supremacy culture.
