Today marks the 3rd anniversary of the Boston Bombings at the marathon finish line. As a Boston native, this is a particularly emotional day for me. Many media companies, like USA Today, have features on their websites to commemorate the tragic event. These montages of images are upsetting...but I think it is important that we take a moment to recall all of the people who were affected by the tragedy.
I find the media's coverage of terrorist attacks to be fascinating and, at times, controversial. We all agree that terrorism is a major worry and concern for Western nations...especially after the recent ISIS attack on Brussels. But, I do wonder if the media coverage focuses too much on the Islamic faith. Though it is true that the brother's who set the bombs off at the marathon finish line said they did it in the name of Allah, most Muslim's are fundamentally against jihad.
I think the media needs to be careful when they talk about terrorism and Islam - their coverage is negatively shaping many peoples' views of a major global faith.
On a day like today, our memories are awakened -- many of us are angry, sad, and fearful. The media should remind us of days like the Boston Bombing -- but, they must also
