No Black Girl Magic Here

As we have discussed in class,  minorities are often used as props in the media rather than being the focus of presentation.   This week in the media,  African-Americans have been out raged over  a GAP  kids advertisement in which 3 young Caucasian girls are  standing in powerful poses while the lone Black girl serves as a literal prop for one of the other girls.   Gap apologizes for offending groups by the picture and explains that it was not in their intentions to present the ad as such,  but knowing the stereotypical role of being solely a prop for minorities in the media makes it difficult for people to look past  GAP's ignorance.  The young girl's mother has since come forward stating that the girls are adopted sisters and that there was no ill intent behind the ad.  GAP did remove the ad since it was offensive to some.
