United Airlines Asked a Muslim Family to Leave an aircraft

Over the weekend, CNN reported on a story that is rather upsetting.  A Muslim family was asked to get off of an airplane last month - the flight was leaving from the Chicago O'Hare airport.  You can read the story here.

The family was traveling with their three children.  One of those children required a booster seat and when a flight attendant failed to successfully secure the seat the family was asked to leave the flight. Afterward, the family was rebooked on a flight that left later that day.  The airline claims that the reason they asked the family to leave was do to safety precautions.  The family sees the situation differently.

The family is now asking for an apology from United Airlines - they feel that the reason they were treated the way they were was because of their Islamic faith.  It is unclear if this is true, but the story seems fishy.

Though CNN seemed to be in support of the family in their news coverage, it is disheartening that discrimination persists in the United States.  Each time I read a story like this I think to myself "two steps forward, one step back."  That seems to be the mantra for race relations in our country.
