Kerry Washington Speaks Out on Photoshopped Appearance
Kerry Washington, the star of Shonda Rhimes Scandal, was recently featured as the cover star of Adweek. Adweek is a magazine focusing on pop culture and media. It is great that Adweek featured Washington, a woman of color. However, Adweek also photoshopped Washington. She herself even admitted that it was uncomfortable to look at the cover, because she could not recognize the person on the cover. Photoshopping and retouching happens far too frequently, and this cover is an example of the ridiculous beauty standards in America. I look at many magazine covers and I think about how much the male gaze impacts their making. I think that this is an example of the male gaze, because that impacts how content is produced. Washington is beautiful regardless, and no retouching should have been done!

I completely agree with this! I don't u ne'er stand why society sets such high standards for women that it is almost impossible. Every woman has their own individual boy and society needed to be more accepting and embrace how different we all are. We're not robots!
