Meet Katie Meade, the first person with Down syndrome to be the face of a beauty campaign.
Throughout their lives many disabled girls are taught by the our cultures idealized images of beauty,  that beauty is not for everyone, beauty belongs to a certain body type and a certain face. They are excluded from those worlds of fashion and beauty that so many girls longs to be a part of, Katie Meade is striving to change this. Born with Down Syndrome, Katie refuses to fall in to the constraints and be defined by the labels of a society that often invizibilizes or misunderstands those with disabilities. In 2015 Katie became the first woman with Down Syndrome to be the face of a beauty campaign. The company Beauty & Pin-ups specializes in makeup and hair care and chose Katie to be the face of their new hair care campaign entitled Fearless. Katie is extremely confident and successful. She wants to change the way people think about those with disabilities.“Its fun to show everybody that if you have disabilities, you can also have abilities…Beauty belongs to everyone.” -Katie Meade
