Texas has banned its inmates from, "maintaining active social media accounts for the purposes of soliciting, updating, or engaging others," and bars their friends or family from operating social media accounts in their name."
This is an interesting and controversial move by the state, and to be honest I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. Having full separation from the outside world can have extremely negative impacts on a person's emotional, mental, and even physical health, but does going to prison mean a person loses their right to social media as well?
This is an interesting concept I would love to talk about and debate next class.
Interesting...
ReplyDeleteNot sure quite what I think...but it doesn't seem ok that their family members can't maintain accounts for them.
This is just one of many ways social media is changing our societal landscape
