According to BBC, President Obama made statements recently blaming the Donald Trump phenomenon on the media. I couldn't agree more.

The president gave an address at a journalists awards dinner, and although he didn't mention Trump explicitly, his indications were clear. The president said of the violence, hatred, and atrocious rhetoric surrounding Donald Trump that,"Politicians, journalists and citizens are all responsible for the divisive and bitter political atmosphere, but reporters should be digging deeper on the 2016 presidential candidates." Further, he said that the overwhelming media attention that Trump has received takes more than just, "handing someone a microphone."

Well said, Mr. President.

The media has been so obsessive over petty issues surrounding Donald Trump, such as arguing about hand and genital size with fellow candidates, that most people don't even know what the candidates platforms are. They don't even seem to understand Trump's platform, in spite of hours upon hours of media coverage. Why? The media hasn't focused on it.

The presidential campaign will decide who will be the new leader of the free world. That's a big deal, to say the least. Rather than focusing on key issues, platform debate, handling of serious issues, or even basic policy standpoints, the media has been the ringleader in an embarassing circus display of petty arguments, childish ignorance, violence, and hateful rhetoric. The rest of the world is watching. Americna citizens are watching. Children are watching. The external effects are starting to result in outbreaks of violence, hatred, and xenophobia.

Trump has big numbers in the polls right now, and all I'm saying is that I've got some one way tickets to Amsterdam saved if anyone wants to join. Just in case.

  1. I completely agree. Arguably, a lot of Trump's popularity is due to the concept that no publicity is bad publicity. Even though a lot of the rhetoric in the news surrounding Trump is negative, he is a common talking point. People hear his name, are intrigued, and therefore he has a large following.
