I recently came across a Vice article that discusses men exploiting female pop stars in the music industry. This crucial issue has been brought to light ever since pop star Kesha came out with her experience with her producer taking advantage of her. The gender imbalance is extremely high in the music industry -- the article states that women only make up 9% of the 2016 Billboard 100 Power List. Whether or not the relationship is sexual, there is a history of men in Hollywood taking advantage of younger female stars. This terrible reoccurrence is a result of the imbalanced dynamic in the music industry and the pressure to make it big.

I completely agree. Issues like this are often kept silent as well because of the nature of the victim being oppressed. I think this is a really important article.
ReplyDeleteI agree as well and think it is a good sign that the media is noticing this and writing about.
