It’s what everyone is talking
about- as they should.
Beyonce dropped her new music
video for Formation, and it is unapologetically, powerfully, beautifully,
BLACK. She celebrates her heritage, she recognizes black voices in social
media, she dances on a sinking cop car in New Orleans, and destroys the white
heteropatriarchy. She contributes an image of powerful, beautiful blackness
into the media. My favorite part of the whole video was when she condemned the
media for attacking her baby daughter’s hair, saying, “I like my baby heir with
baby hair and afros.” Blue Ivy comes into the video, with her beautiful hair,
and delivers a smirk to back up her momma and shame the haters. This video gets
me PUMPED. I’ll never understand what it means to be black from the inside,
because I’m a white woman, but I do understand that fighting oppression,
racism, and prejudice, putting powerful images of black women in the media, and
taking pride in who you are is something we should all be pumped about.
I really like this video. I agree when you said this video is BLACK. That is a very powerful term.
