As if the political campaign was not already a big egotistical mess. The republicans took it to another level last night when Donald Trump bought the rights to Jeb Bush's website. As I was scrolling through my social media feed, I kept seeing screenshots of Donald Trump and Jeb Bush "pic stitched" together along with Jeb Bush's website tagged in the tweet, or Facebook post. So I clicked on the link to find out more information. Come to find out Jeb Bush's team forgot to pay for the rights to the website; and Donald Trump, being the savage that he is, took complete advantage and bought the rights to the website. So now when you log onto jebbush.com it is redirected to Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" campaign. Donald Trump and Jeb Bush have had a string of conflicts in the past, and during an interview on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, Mr. Trump doubled
down on the attacks, saying the former president (Jeb's brother) “did a terrible thing,”
invading Iraq and criticized other Republicans for being too
“politically correct” in not opening this line of questioning.
Here is where my critical media eye kicks in. This is the presidential campaign! We are supposed to be seeing candidates talk about their stance on certain issues, and how they plan to advance our country, if they are voted into office. However, with the republican side, and sometimes with the democratic side, why are we seeing the exact opposite. We are seeing candidates (republican) taking digs at each others net worth, appearance, job status etc. And the media plays right into it. I mean, I'm all for a little entertainment; but instead of the media showing the candidates doing great things in the community, and talking about important issues that we as American's want to hear during their caucuses, and city visits. We hear about their views of other candidates, and their personal deficiencies.
