First African American Programming Chief

This week, ABC, named Channing Dungey as their programming chief.  In addition to her being the first African American to hold this position at any major media organization...she is also a woman! Dungey has worked at ABC since 2004 - and she was one of the main figures behind the popular cable show, Scandal.

ABC has struggled with poor ratings recently, which sparked this change up in positions at the company.  Media sources reporting on this job promotion, such as USA Today, hope that having an African American female in a major "behind the scenes" position will make for more diverse programming.

This is a major step in the right direction - there is finally a new gatekeeper in the world of television. Hopefully Dungey will make an impact on the industry by utilizing her individual identity when making decisions.

Bravo, ABC.  Too bad it's already 2016 - this should have happened years ago.
