We Need a Wakeup Call: The Treatment of Women in Hollywood

It is 2016 and at times women are still being treated like second class citizens. According to this article,
"The number of women directing big-budget films and TV series is stunningly low. Only 9 percent of the directors of last year's 250 top-grossing movies were female, according to the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film at San Diego State University. And women accounted for just 12 percent of the directors on more than 225 shows on prime-time TV and Netflix during the 2014-15 season"

This is very sad and staggering statistic. Though it feels like progress is being made, there are numbers that suggest that women are still being left on the sidelines. In the article, the author brings up that many male producers stick to stereotypes when hiring screenwriters or co-producers. These stereotypes, that suggest a women may be too bossy or difficult to work with, have lasting impacts that include lack of representation. If women are not behind the camera or writing stories, then their identities are often left for men to write and produce. This means that women may be misrepresented, or not represented at all.

It is 2016. If we stand for the land of equality, than we really need to practice what we preach.
