Black History Month Vs. White History

This is a video that I found when scrolling down my news feed on Facebook. As I was watching this video an idea occurred to me that never had before. When we speak on Black history in school we briefly touch the surface. The order of our Black History usually follows an order somewhat like this. Our first piece of Black History we learn usually has something to do with slavery, you might hear the name Harriet Tubman, and then you move to the next section. Prior to Barack Obama being elected President our Black History would usually end with Martin Luther King Jr. After Dr. King  our history lesson about African Americans was pretty much over. Mind you that Harriot Tubman lived made an impacted and passed away before Dr. King was even born.

In this video numerous  people of different races are talking about why we have Black History Month, but no White History Month. These speakers are simply explaining that every month is White History month. One of the young ladies in the video says that without having a Black History month that many of the contributions that African Americans have made to this country would go unnoticed. The speakers from the video in different ways  express how White History is displayed everyday. I Think this video was well made because often times we do run into situations where people ask why we don't have a White History Month, but the video reminds you that in some form or fashion everyday we are celebrating white History, and we don't even recognize it because it is so common to us. Below is the link for the video I am interested to hear your thoughts.
Here's Why We Don't Need a " White History Month"

  1. i really agree with this. Especially when you state the fact that students normally hear about slavery during black history month. I relate to that very personally.
