People don't just watch the Super Bowl to watch football they also tune in to see the commercials that the advertising industry come up with every year. And a lot of times those commercials play into sexism and supporting gender stereotypes. But a particular activist organization has been trying to stop this for 5 years. The Representation Project, an organization dedicated to fighting gender stereotypes, will continue its social media campaign #NotBuyingIt and #MediaWeLike to encourage people to speak out about any Super Bowl ads that are sexist and to create a conversation about this issue. Sexism and the objectification of women is prevalent in our media today. We see it in TV shows, commercials, ad campaigns, etc. And this issue won't go away until there is a call to action to change the way we view women in the media and how we define gender.

  1. The proactive hashtags the Representation Project have created are a really great start to condemning sexist media. While I support the endeavor, I worry media content is too committed to selling sex over producing positive images of women. The project should simultaneously create their own content to break the boundaries.

  2. I hadn't heard of #NotBuyingIt before this blog post, and I love it. Sexist advertising is so common it seems that people don't even recognize it anymore. I'm happy that this hashtag is working to tear down stereotypes.
