Cam Newton's celebration dances have been one of the front-line stories in the sports world and in the media. Time and time the question is asked, "is his dancing too much?', " is it an affront to the game?", "aren't celebration dances okay?" There has been talk from both sides of this debate. In one particular article by the USA TODAY SPORTS showcases Peyton Manning Denver QB coming to Newton's aid. Manning was quoted saying "No doubt in my mind he’ll be named MVP Saturday night,” Manning said. "You don’t go 17-1 without being awesome.” He even praised Newton’s leadership. But one answer got everyone's attention regarding Newton. Manning stated that "I don’t run for any touchdowns but, I promise you if I do on Sunday I’ll celebrate." He finished by saying of Newton’s Superman celebration and habit of giving the ball to a kid: "I think it’s great, and I think it’s great for football." USA TODAY SPORTS titled their article "Peyton may have just settled the debate about Cam Newton's celebrations" by giving this title UTS furthered the argument that minorities need the help of the majorities to be heard. Newton's words about his celebrations weren't enough to satisfy the media, apparently he needed a white man to come to his defense. Manning may have only been showing support for a fellow athlete but the media turned him into a "savior" for Newton.
