Cam Newton: "I shouldn't be labeled a black quarterback"

All football season long we have been blessed to witness the season in which the man above has been having above. That is Cam Newton, starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers. In recent though, there has been some stir up in the media about him being a black quarterback playing in the super bowl. All season long the media has been tracking him from criticizing his dance celebrations, and his style of play on the field. All of this has lead up to the recent labeling of Cam Newton as a black quarterback. Just this past week at the Panthers Super Bowl media day Newton express the fact that he doesn't want race to be involved in him playing the game of football, in specific making it to the Super Bowl as an African American quarterback either. He doesn't want to be labeled a black quarterback. A reporter at the media day kept pressing the issue of him being an African American quarterback in the Super Bowl. He responded "It’s not an issue. It’s an issue for you." My issue and question is why is the media pressing the issue this with Cam Newton when last year there was a "black quarterback" in the Super Bowl, and that was Seattle Seahawk's Russell Wilson? Last year race of the quarterback was not nearly as big of a deal as it is this year.
