This image depicts Deray Mckeeson, black lives matter activist, entering the race for mayor of Baltimore.  This Wednesday Mckesson filed his application to run as a Democrat right before the 9 p.m. deadline. Twenty eight other candidates will also be running for the position in an attempt to run the city that has experienced  periods protests and unrest last year after the death of Freddie Gray. Reading about this reminded me of an interview conducted earlier this year by Fox News. During the interview Deray Mckeeson was labeled a "professional protester" by the media rather than a civil rights activist. The title the media gave Mckeeson and the language they used to describe his beliefs and experiences trivialized his accomplishments and stereotyped him. This interview is a blatant example of the media manipulating and controlling content to frame individuals in a certain way. As Mckeeson enters the race for mayor it is important to not only study how the media is framing him currently but how it has in the past.
