Kansas Lawmaker Imposes Dress Code on Females

Last week, Kansas lawmaker Senator Mitch Holmes imposed a dress code preventing women testifying on bills from wearing "low-cut necklines and miniskirts." Holmes issued a code of conduct consisting of 11 different points guiding women on how to dress, and took it upon himself to decide what is appropriate and what is not. Clearly, he has no legitimate authority of doing so, although he continued to do so and released the official report. The rules of course do not address men across any aspect whatsoever. According to Holmes, "men do not need instructions on how to look professional." In regard to this implementation made by Holmes, Senator Laura Kelly spoke out against him, "oh, for crying out loud, what century is this?" Many senators released statements speaking out against Holmes, criticizing the audacious code of conduct that he has written.  Holmes claims that his intention when writing these rules was a result of the notion that "provocatively dressed women are a distraction." Many believe that prohibiting specific articles of clothing for women is completely inappropriate and by doing so takes away from any actual progress in political movements, only further contributing to controversy. The media got word of this implementation by Holmes and began releasing several reports, addressing the issue of sexism at hand. Across the border, the general consensus from both right-winged and left-winged sources is indicating that this contributes to the issue of sexism and is simply controversial. The Associated Press was made of aware of the issue immediately and instantly reacted, releasing several reports and establishing the injustice of the report.
