Last week Kim Kardashian uploaded a nude photo of herself on Instagram to promote national women’s day. Her photo was meant to demonstrate self-acceptance and body confidence. Unfortunately Kim received a lot of backlash from all sorts of different people including celebrities. What is even sadder however, is the harsh criticism Kim received from other women. These women suggested that by promoting her body on social media and celebrating her appearance she is teaching women that their bodies are what define them. Many others came to her defense though and encouraged her. These encouragements encompassed the idea that self-confidence and body positivity is what makes girls more confident, especially those who struggle with feeling unattractive or unable to fit the societal norm. Kim’s Instagram post proves how media can be an important outlet to encourage young woman and can be used as a way to show body positivity.
